This was a monumental week for the New York Yankees, trimming the Boston Red Sox's lead in the AL East to a microscopic 1.5 games. The Yankees also spaced out their lead in the AL wild card to the Tigers to 5.5 games which only makes their chances at making the postseason greater. Coming great adversities by the sports world and myself being as far back as 14.5 games in August. A strong push from the offense and newly developed pitching have put the Yanks into major contention. The Yanks have been hot as of late winning 4 straight and taking 2 of 3 crucial games from the Red Sox the pitching looked fairly good except this Saturday when the Yanks and their ace Chein Ming Wang were trounced 10-1 but a phenomenal comeback on Friday coming back from a 5 run deficit in the 8th the Yanks put some offense together and won 8-7. Sunday was perhaps the best game of the month, the Yankees going into the 8th inning with a 1-1 tie. But the captain, Derek Jeter hit a 3-run blast over the Green Monster giving them a 4-1 lead, the Red Sox scratched out 2 more runs cutting the Yanks lead to 1 and in the bottom of the ninth David Ortiz had the bases loaded and poped out ending the game. the Yanks faced the Orioles in the next series and disposed of them not showing much life except, in the final when they lost 2-1. Leading the way of this incredible stretch is AL MVP cannidate Alex Rodriguez who has overcome immense adversity and having the best year in his career. This has been a crucial week in deciding the Yankees postseason hopes. Maybe the Yankees win the divison? Do the Sox choke (as usual)? We will have to wait, as the Yankees faceoff against the Toronto Blue Jays for a 4 game series.
